1832 – Mercado de la Encarnación

In 1832, the Mercado de la Encarnación was inaugurated, establishing this site as one of the main commercial and social hubs in the center of Seville.

1973 – Demolition of the market

The historic market was demolished, leaving an urban void in Plaza de la Encarnación that would shape the future development of the area for decades.

2004 – International design competition

The City Council launched an international competition to transform the square, with the winning proposal being Metropol Parasol, designed by architect Jürgen Mayer.

2006 – Start of construction works

Construction of Setas de Sevilla began, marking the start of an ambitious project combining architectural innovation and urban regeneration. The work was carried out by Grupo Sacyr, the company responsible for building the structure.

2011 – Inauguration of Setas de Sevilla

Setas de Sevilla was inaugurated as a new urban and cultural landmark, becoming one of the city’s top tourist attractions and a reference in contemporary architecture.
